Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Michael Zachary Spiegelman
September 19th, 1942 - June 5th, 2024
Michael Zachary Spiegelman was born on September 19,1942 in Pittsburgh, PA to Ruth Abramovitz Spiegelman and Joseph Spiegelman. He had one beloved younger brother, Stanley, who preceded him in death. Mike attended Taylor Allderdice High School and later graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, P.A.
Michael attended medical school at the University of Chicago and deferred military service until receiving his M.D. He served for two years as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam. He returned to the U.S., married and settled in Houston, Tx., opening an ophthalmology practice where he practiced for many years. Later he met his second wife, Marty Barnes Spiegelman.
Taking an early medical retirement, Mike and Marty traveled throughout Europe and Asia. Mike taught medical students at University of Texas, San Antonio. He traveled to many underdeveloped areas to do eye surgery. His hobbies were many, diving, piloting small aircraft and especially playing the violin. But most importantly he had a beautiful soul, a kind sense of humor and was beloved by many. To his wife, Marty, he was one of a kind and it was an honor to take care of him as his disabilities progressed. May he rest in peace.
A service will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 10 am.
