September 21st, 1933 - October 6th, 2011
Funeral services for Joseph Henry Vickers, 78, of Columbia, will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. Pastor Philip Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the funeral home. Mr. Vickers passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011. He was born September 21, 1933 in Polk County, NC to the late Boyd Gordon Vickers and Gladys Flynn Vickers. Mr. Vickers was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Santee Print Works in Sumter, SC. He was a member of Suber Marshall United Methodist Church, and was also a Past President of the Midlands Chapter of the Mustang Club. Surviving are his loving companion, Joan Gotch; son, Joe Vickers (wife Marisa); two sisters, Mae and Judy; a brother, Boyd G. Vickers Jr.; and two grandchildren, Kathryn Vickers and Susannah Vickers. He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Vickers. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 1-800-227-2345 or www.cancer.org.
