Michael Richard “Dick” Groves passed away peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning the 13th of May 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Leslie R Groves, who left us on the 20th of March this year and his Mother Evelyn Darrough Groves who died in 1999. Dick was born in Albany, New York on August 23rd, 1932. After serving his country in Korea with the United States Army 5th Regimental Combat Team, 72d Combat Engineers he returned home to marry Leslie in 1954, with whom he has now joined in heavenly grace. Dick Groves is survived by his three sons Michael, Steven (Wife Mavis) and Scott, as well as, his two granddaughters Jennifer Groves and Elle Nash. Dick lived in Western New York for most of his life, residing in Hilton for the last 50 Years. A rugged outdoorsman and avid conservationist he was a lifetime member of the Northstar Sportsman’s Club. Dick was a salesman by trade, a leader by birth, and a humanitarian by choice. His lifetime of volunteer service to Ducks Unlimited and his time spent as the Scoutmaster of Troop 245 in North Greece are but a few examples. He touched many lives in both his professional and personal life and will be missed dearly. The good Lord calling for Dick and Leslie this year within 54 days of each other has been quite a shock to all of us. A wake to memorialize their lives will be held on Wednesday the 27th of May at the Northstar Facility located at 1299 County Road 230, Hilton, NY 14468. We will start at 1:00 PM, with a few short words, a song by his Granddaughter and an open microphone for comments from anyone attending. Viewing of their Urn and a Guest sign in / Memorial book will be available apart from the gathering hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Northstar Sportsman’s Club.
