Emory Hartley WEST COLUMBIA: Graveside service for Emory Sylvester Hartley, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, in the Chapel of Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree St., West Columbia, SC, officiated by Russell Laird. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at the cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mr. Hartley died peacefully at his home January 8th, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Swansea, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie and Annie Huffman Hartley. He was a member of Swansea Baptist Church and retired after a career with the CSX Railroad. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Surviving is a sister, Isabel Hartley Jeffcoat of Swansea and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased Mr. Hartley. The family wishes to extend their sincere thankfulness to Hospice Care of Tri-County as well as the caregivers who provided Mr. Hartley with their tender and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Care of Tri-County, 166 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210 or to a charity of one's choosing.
