Charles Edward Shelton, Jr. WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Charles Edward Shelton, Jr., 68, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, West Columbia, SC. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC. Mr. Shelton passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Born on August 23, 1943, in Chattanooga, TN, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Shelton, Sr., and Virginia Irene Davis Shelton. He attended Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church and was employed by Palmetto GBA in Columbia. Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Dottie Shelton of West Columbia; children, Chad Shelton, Sissie Probert, Brian Shelton and Brad Shelton; grandchildren, Chase Shelton, Megan Probert, Caroline Shelton, Maddy Probert, Evie Shelton, and Zoey Shelton; daughters-in-law, Kit Shelton and Sue Shelton; son-in-law, Tim Probert; work associates and friends Terry M. Floyd, Jim Shealy, and the gang at Palmetto GBA; work associates and friends at Blue Cross and Blue Shield; and many other family and friends. Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane (Cookie) Shelton. Mr. Shelton's favorite expression was Carpe Diem and he encouraged those around him to live their life to the fullest and to do so without regret. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and loved attending his granddaughters' recitals and sports matches. Mr. Shelton was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.
