James Horner
August 2nd, 1925 - August 6th, 2011
CAYCE—Funeral services for James W. Horner, 86, of Cayce, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Park Street Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Sam Catoe and Chaplain Chong. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. August 10, 2011 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Park Street Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers will be the Friday night dinner club members. Mr. Horner passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Born in Tennessee, he was the son of the late Rev. Patrick Henry Horner and Jewel Ward Horner. He was formerly of Trenton, NJ and has been an area resident since 1985. He retired in 1984 from Western Electric Company. He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and sang with the Melody Makers group at Agape Senior Center where he was also a volunteer. Surviving Mr. Horner are his daughter, Nancy Horner Graves (Rev. Dan Graves) of Columbia; step-daughter, Patricia Sams of Destin, FL; son, Patrick James Horner (Dinah) of Harselle, AL; step-sons, Mark Burt (Jan) of Columbia, John Burt (Sharen) of Fort Walton Beach, FL; brothers, Leon Horner (Selah) of Nicoles, GA and Rev. William Horner (Mary) of Chatanooga, TN; seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mary Horner and 2nd wife, Hilde Horner, a brother, Bob; a sister, Patsy and a step-son, Charles Burt. Memorials may be made in Mr. Horner's honor to Park Street Baptist Church, 2204 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
