Farrell L. Smith GASTON: Funeral services for Farrell L. Smith, 77, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Tom Nahlen. Interment will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Smith's five grandsons, J.W. Hook, Ricky Cartner, Robby Cartner, Michael Smith, Andrew Smith and Rick Loging. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1340 Mack St., Gaston, SC 29053 or to the charity of one's choice. Mr. Smith died Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Born in Lee County, SC, he was a son of the late Barney L. Smith and Katherine Elease Baker Smith. Formerly of Bishopville, SC, he was a resident here since 1958. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict; he was a member of Sinclair Lodge #54 and Scottish Rites 32nd Degree. He had been the owner and operator of Double B Food Stores before retiring. Surviving are his loving wife, Betty B. Smith of Gaston; daughter, Teresa Smith Cartner (Rick) of Gilbert; son, Ray M. Smith (Kathy) of West Columbia; grandsons, J. W. Hook (Heather), Ricky Cartner (Cheryl), Robby Cartner, Michael Smith and Andrew Smith; great granddaughters, Hope Cartner and Sara Hinton.
