Tommy Hoang

Tommy Van Hoang , born April 4th 1980, passed away on January 16, 2017 in Denver Colorado. He was a 1998 graduate of Cushing High School in Cushing Oklahoma. Tommy was an active wrestler while in high school and was a two time undefeated state champion. Tommy was also a 2003 graduate of Duke University where he was also recognized for his wrestling achievements. Tommy was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Army in 2010 and was promoted to the rank of Captain. He served in Korea, as well as two tours of duty in Afghanistan where he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Award, as well as many other awards and achievements. Tommy’s military service was personally recognized by former Department of Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. Tommy was a humanitarian whose efforts were far reaching, and he left everywhere he visited better because of it. Some of Tommy’s other achievements included mountain climbing, kick boxing in Thailand, Sumo wrestling in Afghanistan, and winning a state championship belt for MMA fighting in Utah. Tommy loved music and was also poet, an actor, and a playwright. His experiences and accomplishments are too numerous to list. He is survived by his parents, Phai Hoang and family of Denver Colorado, Ruby Marlow and family of Cushing Oklahoma, brother Travis Hoang of Denver Colorado, two sisters; Treasa White and family of Cushing Oklahoma, Tiffney Ledbetter and family of Valdosta Georgia, as well as many other family members and friends. Services will be held at All Saints Catholic Church from 10 am to 11 am on January 23rd. Tommy will receive full military honors with internment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver Colorado at 1 pm. Acceptance gifts may be sent to 3220 W. Nevada place, Denver, CO 80219.
