Robert Janke
February 28th, 1944 - July 21st, 2018
On Saturday, July 21, 2018, Bob Janke, beloved father, brother, uncle and friend moved on to be with the Lord, in the company of his family. Bob was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Following his graduation from Maple Heights High School in 1962, Bob joined the US Navy. He served on the USS Mauna Loa naval ship and was honorably discharged in 1967. He attended Cleveland State University and then at age 26, married Linda Grebeck (married 7 years). In 1972, they moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and then to Oahu in 1974. In 1978, Bob married Carol Hale Rawlins (married 18 years). In 1994, he moved to Maui. Bob loved the islands of Hawaii so much that he called them home for 44 years before moving to Highlands Ranch, CO in 2016, to obtain better health care and to live closer to family. In 2017, he moved to Littleton, CO where he made good friends and had many dear neighbors. Bob loved the Lord and was always a seeker of truth. He was raised as a Catholic, became a Jehovah’s Witness for many years and was recently confirmed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob started his career working as an insurance salesman in Ohio. In Hawaii, he worked as a Territory Salesman/Manager for Better Brands, Ltd, Ecolab and Diversey, Inc. After retiring as a salesman, he became a Security Guard for Securitas. Bob was known for his love of the Lord, people and dogs. He had a signature sense of humor and enjoyed a special connection with his daughter. He enjoyed studying the Bible, spending time with friends, family and his loyal dog, Koko, laughing, making new friends, eating “ono” (good) meals and desserts, being taken on trips, painting or drawing and fishing. He also enjoyed giving people the shaka or “hang loose” sign, his way of saying hi. Bob will be remembered as one “cool dude.” Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Janke, two infant brothers, and his nephew Shawn McGrew. He is survived by his daughter, Jennica Janke (Rob) of Lansing, MI, step-son Eric Rawlins of Rutherford, NJ, former wife, Carol Janke Baker of Eaton Rapids, MI, sisters Ellen Griewahn of Chamblee, GA and Joy (Bob) McGrew of Highlands Ranch, CO, nieces Jackie (McGrew) Egger and Stephanie Griewahn, nephews Mark and Tim McGrew and Chad Griewahn, six great nieces and nephews and by dear friends and neighbors. Private family services will be held in Hawaii at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Jennica on behalf of the family at [email protected]. Memorial donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the American Cancer Society, the Denver Humane Society or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to give special thanks to Sky Ridge Hospital (Lone Tree, CO), Kaiser Permanente, Denver Hospice, Autumn Heights Health Care Center (Denver, CO) Cherrelyn Health Care Center (Littleton, CO), as well as church members and friends for all the special care given to Bob and his family during this difficult time. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
