Sammie "June" Jones Jr.,58, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest August 20, 2018 at WJB Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on February 14, 1960 in Utica, New York to the late Sammie and Annie Jones. Sammie graduated Utica Free Academy in 1978 and then joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 13 years. After returning home to Utica, he joined his father in the family business, Jones Garage, where he later became the owner after his father’s retirement. Sammie was a member of the Hiram Lodge #18 where he served as a past Master, Chenango Chapter #11 HRAM (past High Priest), Julius H. Snoddy R.N.S.M. Council #24 (past Thrice Illustrious Master), Team David Commandery #22 (past Eminent Commander), Utica Consistory #45 (past Commander In Chief). He received his Grand Inspector General 33 Degree on May 26, 2005 from the United Supreme Council AASRNJ, PHA, in Chicago, Illinois. Sammie was also a member of ALEPPO Temple #88 AEONMS, INC (past Potentate), a member of Starlight Chapter #6, PH, O.E.S., and Syracuse Elk Lodge #1104. He also served as President of the Oneida County Branch of the NAACP. Sammie is survived by a daughter, Brittney Jones; three sons, Dexter Jones and his wife Brittany, Cory Jones, and Zachary Jones; two grandchildren, Mariah Brown and Gabriel Harris; two sisters, Teresa Jones and Cynthia Jones; a brother, Michael Smith; three nieces, three nephews, and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sonia Walker. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on August 25, 2018 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM. Funeral services will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 12 noon. Mr. Jones will be laid to rest at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
