Laura Harris Smith, age 85, passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, after a long battle with dementia. She was born August 30, 1932 in Union, SC to Ruby Stewart Harris and Emmett Samuel Harris. Laura was a devoted member of Broadacres Baptist Church in Cayce. She gave 15 years of service at Southern Bell and then went onto to devote over 30 years to CVS. Laura was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, church member and friend. For many years, Laura enjoyed sending cards with well wishes to the members of Broadacres Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Harold Smith; and two sisters, Elizabeth Harris Therrell and Alberta Virginia Harris. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Ronny) Bailey of Sandy Run; son, Barry (Bernadette) Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida; as well as six grandchildren, Sam (Jennifer) Bailey, Leah Smith Whitesel, Daniel (Meagan) Bailey, Rosemary (Bryan) Shanahan, Kaycee Smith and Macy Smith; along with five great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Oakley, Brayden and Tate Bailey, and Haylinn and Kaylee Whitesel. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Broadacres Baptist Church, located at 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033 in the Fellowship Hall. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., prior to the memorial service. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Broadacres Baptist Church c/o The Building Fund.
