James “Jim” Hendricks of West Columbia SC, passed away October 18th, 2018. He was 92 years old. He was the beloved husband of Elma Hendricks. James is also survived by his 6 children, Dianne Barron (Paul), Ronald (Kathleen), Greggory, James, Mark (Paige), and Tina. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tammy Klenk, Lisa Hughes (Joseph), Bryan Hendricks, Bridget and Emily Hendricks; and great-grandchildren Jessica and Jason Klenk; John "Jack", Isabella, and Olivia Hughes. Jim is also survived by his niece Marcia Findley and nephews William, Bob, and Rick Findley and Kurt Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Paula; sister, Annie Laurel Findley; brothers, Harold and Ben Hendricks (of Easley); niece, Heather Hendricks. Jim was born on January 17th, 1926 in Liberty SC to Edward and Christina Hendricks (nee Looper).Upon his 16th birthday, his mother enlisted him into the Navy at James request. He entered the Navy and served as a gunners mate in World War II. He then transferred to the United States Air Force at Donaldson Air Force Base in Greenville, SC. After leaving the Air Force, he settled in New Jersey and secured a position at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard working in shop 38. He worked there for many years and then traveled to work at various naval bases throughout the country. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge Meridian Sun #2 in Philadelphia where he became a Master Mason. It is the oldest lodge in Pennsylvania. Later in life, Jim moved back to South Carolina, and eventually onto Lakeland, Florida with his wife, Elma. Both Elma and Jim recently relocated back to Columbia, SC before his passing. Services will be held Thursday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Graceland East Memorial Gardens, 2206 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
