Carol ""Cal"" Owens Lucas, Jr.

Carol “Cal" Owens Lucas, Jr., 66, of Cayce, South Carolina passed peacefully on April 21, 2018 after a long illness. Cal is now in his heavenly home reunited with his mother and is no longer in pain. He was born on December 9, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina to Carol O. Lucas, Sr. and the late Jo Ann Dillard Lucas. Cal was a graduate of USC and worked in the family construction and real estate business for over 30 years as a broker and co-owner. Following his work with the family, Cal accepted a position at MUSC School of Medicine and retired in 2006 as a business manager. When Cal was not working, he enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking the occasional "well deserved" cruise. Cal took pleasure spending time with his family and friends. Whether at the beach, the pool or at the homes of his family, he cherished these times. Cal also spent precious years with his four legged friend, Toby. Cal is survived by his sisters, Kathryn J. Lucas of West Columbia and Kimberly R. Lucas of Cayce, SC; nephews, Tyler L. Harrison (Elizabeth) of Atlanta, GA and Trent K. Harrison of West Columbia, SC. Cal also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and a close friend and invaluable helper, James Taylor of Cayce, SC. The family will receive friends at Brookland United Methodist Church, 541 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services will follow the family visitation in the sanctuary of the church with Reverend Fran Connell officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Brookland United Methodist Church, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
