James Perry Thomason
November 20th, 1931 - December 17th, 2020
James Perry Thomason, 89, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully at home with his family and friends around him on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was born on November 20, 1931 in Taccoa, Georgia to the late Bernice Haddock Thomason and Malone W. Thomason. He is survived by his beloved son, James Robert Thomason. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Bonnie Long Thomason; daughter, Patty; brothers, Mark, Evett, Haddock, and Malone Jr.; as well as his sisters, Elaine and Pat. In 1977 James retired as Chief Warrant Officer after serving 25 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea, receiving 2 purple hearts and multiple other awards. After he retired, he then began a farming business. He went on to open Thomason’s Wine and Liquor with his son. He loved to make music. He played the keyboard, guitar, and other instruments. He was a wonderful baker, loved sweets, as well as canning. He will be missed dearly. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 12pm in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens.
