Mary Campbell Scanlon – COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Mary Campbell Scanlon, 92, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church, 806 Universal Drive, Columbia, SC 29209. Pastor David Sturgeon will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at Temple Baptist Church. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary Scanlon passed away November 27, 2021. Born at home in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Lee Campbell and Mary O’Cain Campbell. Mary graduated from Lower-Richland High School, and graduated from Winthrop University. She retired from Mill Creek Elementary School in Richland School District 1 after 30 years of service. Mary was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed traveling and bowling. Mary was a dedicated member at Temple Baptist Church, and was a member of the “Women to Women” Women’s Fellowship. She loved and doted on her two granddaughters, and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. Mary is survived by her daughter, Victoria Peyton (John) of Columbia; granddaughters, Madison Peyton and Laney Peyton; great-grandson, Avett Jones; sister, Betty Jean Rye of Columbia; brothers, Raymond Campbell (Betty) of Eastover and James Campbell of Spartanburg. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, John Scanlon; her son, Edward Scanlon; a daughter, Frances Scanlon; one brother and three sisters. The family would like to thank the staff of Carolina Gardens at Kathwood Assisted Living community and Comfort Care Hospice for their loving care and attention to her. The family requests no flowers, please. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, or the charity of one’s choice.
