Joan Ripley Waybright
August 1st, 1930 - September 10th, 2022
Joan Ripley Waybright was born on August 1, 1930 in St. Petersburg, Florida and went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2022 in Columbia, South Carolina. She married the love of her life, Jack Frederick Waybright, on February 21, 1948 and they had four children - Sharon (Bruce) Myrick of Tyrone, Georgia, Jacque (Carey Prater) Phillips of Columbia, South Carolina, Jack Waybright, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia and Tammy (Vincent) Lowry of Columbia, South Carolina. She is survived by her four children, her nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and her sister, Carol Ripley Spencer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Frederick Waybright; her granddaughter, Alicia Phillips; grandson, Lee Phillips; son-in-law, Bruce Myrick; and her parents, Theodore Woodrow Ripley and Viola Hill Ripley. Joan loved to serve the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader and church pianist. She loved her little dog Pappy and enjoyed reading, crafting, crossword puzzles, Coca-Cola, and all things chocolate. Joan concluded her career when she retired from Medical University of South Carolina in 1998. Visitation will be held at 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, South Carolina, where family will receive friends. Graveside service will follow immediately after visitation at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
