David Richardson

Mr. David Richardson passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Friday, the ninth of February. He had recently celebrated his Eighty second birthday a few weeks earlier, on January nineteenth. David was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts to Miss Hilda Seraphine Richardson. He had two sisters, Marie and Sandra. In his later teens, he worked on the fishing docks of Gloucester in various capacities of the trade. Shortly after graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army branch of the United States Military. He was only 17 years old at the time. During one of his first overseas deployments, David met and married his wife, Micha Yi (pronounced Lee.) They soon moved to the United States with their young son Gregory (Greg). David had a long military career including being stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, Germany, and several US military bases around the US. During his station in Fort Riley, Kansas, his son Rickey Lee Richardson would be born, followed by the birth of his third and final child, Richard Lee Richardson. The family lived in Kileen, Texas during the boys’ early years and moved to South Carolina in 1975 for the duration of his military service based on Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. Mr. Richardson retired from the military in 1983 with many awards and commendations for his service to the United States of America. He continued to live and work in Columbia, SC for the remainder of his life. A second retirement would be celebrated from his civilian employment at House of Threads in downtown Columbia. He was blessed with two daughters-in-law, April (Rickey) and Bridgette (Richard), David was proud of his grandchildren, Allison Nicole, Jacob Russell, Abbigail Rose and Asianna and his great-grandsons, Robert Lee Richardson, Reginald Bright III (Tre,) and Ayce Richardson Bright. His love for them was always evident in their times together. During the later years of his life, David was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Richardson, his wife, Micha of 50 plus years and his oldest son Gregory Lee Richardson. Resigning to elder care at Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro, SC, Mr. Richardson spent the last year or so being looked after by the nurses and staff employed there and enjoyed weekend visits from his family often. A lifelong partner to his wife and a huge support to his family, Mr. Richardson will be missed greatly.
