Richard Burgess
January 19th, 1945 - August 7th, 2015
Francis Richard Burgess, 70, of Columbia, entered into eternal life, Friday, August 7, 2015. Mr. Burgess was born in Rock Hill, SC and was a veteran of the USAF. Mr. Burgess was a son of the late John Ross, Sr., and Millie Settlemyre Burgess. Mr. Burgess was a hardworking Christian man, who always kept his family first and his hope and faith in the Lord. He attended North Trenholm Baptist Church and will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar and Floyd Burgess. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife, Bonnie N. Burgess, with whom he shared a union of more than 50 years; two sons, Richard (Heather) and Lloyd Burgess; daughter, Sherie B. Scott; grandchildren, Alston R. (Leanna) Burgess, Catherine Taylor, Miranda Burgess, Reagan Burgess and Brittany Mullinax; great-grandson, Bryer A. Burgess; brothers, J. Ross Burgess, Jr. of Naples, FL, and D. Hugh (Jan) Burgess of Daniel Island, SC; sisters, Mary Moore of Pompano Beach, FL, Patsy (Harold) Walker of Rock Hill, SC, Mamie (Charles) Thrower of Easley, SC, and Ruth (Bill) Moore of Atlanta, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon), on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29206 with Pastor Steve Cloud officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Those desiring are invited to send memorial contributions to the Music Ministry at North Trenholm Baptist.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
