Maj. Benjamin Dulany Harwell

Funeral services for Maj. Benjamin Dulany Harwell, 80, of West Columbia, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday July 18, 2015 at West Side Baptist Church with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mr. Harwell passed away on July 15, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late William Polo and Bessie Parker Harwell. He was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church for over 25 years. Mr. Harwell was a retired US Army veteran having served during Vietnam War. He was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army, God's Helping Hands and the American Red Cross. He is survived by two daughters, Debra K. Lang and Carol E. Baker (Frank); one son, William T. Harwell; four grandsons, Jeremy, Darryl, William Jr and Justin Harwell; one granddaughter, Marianne Wolff; and daughter-in-law Bet Harwell. Also surviving are a brother, Gordon Harwell and a sister, Maudine Kainoa. In addition to his parents and his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Elizabeth Harwell, he was preceded in death by a son Richard Harwell; a grandson, Brian Baker; and son-in-law, Greg Lang. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 2025 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families.
