A funeral service celebrating the life of Lonnie Lewis Pitts, 81, of Lexington will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm. until the hour of the service on Sunday at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be sent to www.Thompsonsfuneral.com. Lonnie Lewis Pitts, a loving husband, brother, father, and Papa went home on Thursday, September 4, 2014 to be with his Great Savior. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on South Kilbourne Road. He was born in Wilcox County, GA and the son of the late Mary Lucille and Julian Randolph Pitts. He was married for 52 years to Martha Gwendolyn Pitts. Mr. Pitts retired from SC DHEC as a MT (ASCP). He was the President of the SC Medical Technology Association in 1966. He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed working with the Youth at Calvary Baptist Church as well as Dixie Youth Baseball League at Belvedere. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn; sons, Curtis of Lexington and Chris (Carolyn) of Lugoff; a sister, Gwen Mills of Warner Robins, GA; a brother, Rueben Pitts of Fitzgerald, GA; 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a twin sister, Lonnese Smith, sisters, Hazel Keeny and Frances Teems; brothers, William "Buddy" Pitts and an infant.
