Dennis McCoy
September 21st, 1955 - May 25th, 2009
Dennis McCoy, 53, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on May 25, 2009. He was born September 21, 1955 in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Hassel and Roberta McCoy. One of 12 children, he was especially close to his sister Annie, who largely raised him. He had many nicknames as a child, being called “Charlie” by Annie, “Buddy” by his dad, and “My Little Man-Man” by his mom. In later years, he acquired other nicknames- his best friend Michael called him “Barney”, as Dennis was the Barney Rubble to Michael’s Fred Flintstone. In 1975 Dennis joined the army. While stationed in El Paso, Texas, he met his future wife Randi on November 2nd, 1977. They married on March 3rd, 1978. Over the course of their 31 year marriage, Dennis and Randi were the very best of friends, and Randi clearly remembers telling him on their first anniversary “I love you more than my own life”. They had three little girls, Glori, Heather, and Sarah, who loved their daddy very much. While the family was stationed in Germany, the girls bought Dennis a mug for father’s day that has become a treasured family heirloom. It reads “To our Daddy, the first man we ever loved.” Dennis’ family talks about him as an amazing man, a sweet and wonderful caretaker, and the best husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend imaginable. He will be truly missed. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Randi. He is also survived by his daughters Glori (Greg) McCoy-Vera, Heather (Grant) Lankerd, and Sarah (Isaac) McCoy-Garibay; grandkids Hailey Marie and Joshua Ryan Lankerd, Benjamin Jourdan McCoy, Matthew Alexander and Nicholas Blake McCoy-Vera; sisters Annie (Dale) Scott, Janice (Walt) Hall, Carole Lozon, Charline (Al) Adkins, and Betty Storey; brother James McCoy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Hassel and Roberta McCoy, his sister Helen “Snooky” Belcher, and brothers Larry Arthur McCoy, Ronald James McCoy, William “Bill” McCoy, and Hassel “Butch” McCoy, Jr. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009. Viewing 12:00 PM Funeral Service 1:00 PM both at Bear Valley Christian Church, 6800 W Hampden Ave., Lakewood, CO 80227 Committal Service and Interment 2:15 PM Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area “C”, Denver, CO.
