COLUMBIA—Michael E. Dooley was born October 4, 1955 in Sanford, Florida. He died Sunday, March 2, 2014. The family moved to Columbia 50 years ago, where Mike made lifelong friendships early and later in life. Mike dearly loved, and was dearly loved by his friends - who were there for him. Beach Trips and just time together with his friends lifted his spirits. He was an athlete in his youth, playing second base and pitching for Midlands Shopping Center and playing quarterback and running back for I.B.E.W. He liked to play golf. He was a brick mason for 25 years. He helped build schools, churches, and other commercial buildings. He oversaw the masonry work at or near Lexington Hospital in the 1990's. He started a company with Buddy Hayes called "Detail & Design Masonry". Mike was a poet with his own turn of phrase. Michael married Rebecca Gee, October 3, 1992. Mike loved and was loved by his family very much; his father, John J. Dooley who died in 1977, mother, Jean W. Burriss who died in 2010. Also, his brothers, John J. Dooley, Jr. of Berkeley, California, Richard W. Dooley of Cologne, Germany; sister, Mary P. Dooley of Columbia. And step-father, T. Moffatt Burriss of Columbia. Also his nephews, John Patrick Dooley, Michael Christian Dooley and Sebastian P. W. Dooley. He has extended family in South Carolina, Massachusetts, California, El Salvador, Seattle and New York City. Our family thanks the nurses, doctors and staff of Palmetto Baptist Hospital, especially the ICU, for their whole-hearted care. Friends and family celebrated Mike's life Saturday, April 12th. He is sorely missed.

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
