A funeral service celebrating the life of Dora Lorene Thompson Botts Godfrey, 82, of Columbia will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Long officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00p.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Jason Powers, Clark Cooper, Drew Botts, Jamark Botts, Matthew Hill, and Ryan Hill will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to South Carolina Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd, Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621 in Lorene's memory. On-line condolences may be sent to www.Greenlawn-Columbia.com. Mrs. Godfrey departed this earthly life peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in East Point, GA to Edward Porter Thompson and Annie Bell Trentham Thompson on July 29, 1930. Mrs. Godfrey was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Mrs. Godfrey was predeceased by her parents; her 1st husband, James M. Botts of 41 years and her 2nd husband, James H. Godfrey of 17 years; a daughter, Connie Powers; a step-son, James Godfrey, Jr.; sisters, Beatrice Thompson Jones, Lucille Thompson Williams, Irene Thompson McMullen, and Betty Thompson; a step-sister, Nonie Lewis; and a brother, David Thompson. Those left to cherish her beautiful memories are her daughter, Tona Dahlquist of Columbia, SC; a step-daughter, Rose-Marie Zuk of Auburn, AL; two sons, John Botts (Jane) of Sarasota, FL and Mike Botts (Mary Lynn) of Madison, AL; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives & friends that will miss her dearly.
