WEST COLUMBIA: Mr. Harman passed away Friday, May 03, 2013. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas Asbury Harman and Nancy Sue Maxwell Harman. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and Charleston Southern University. Mr. Harman graduated from Banking School at USC and Banking School of the South, LSU. He was associated with Lexington State Bank (BB&T) for 28 years, most recently as a Vice President. A memorial service for John William Harman, 67, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Honorary pallbearers will be: John Turner, Pope Lawson, Marchant Harman, John Gibson, Greg Wall, Charlie Potts, Gene Morris, Mike Williams, Bubba Carns, Warren Garrison, MD, Henderson Dawson, Cliff Shealy and Art White. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Dianne Baker Harman of West Columbia; daughters, Kimberly Parsons Cummings (Michael) of Asheville, NC and Lori Harman of West Columbia; sister, Harriet M. Harman, MD of Durham, NC; and grandchildren, Holden Parsons, Ella Harman and Max Cummings. John was a kind and gentle man, a wonderful and loving husband and brother, a great Dad to his sweet daughters, a special Poppe to his much loved and adored grands and a friend to all. The family would like to thank Bradley Word, MD, Warren Garrison, MD, SCOA and the staff 8th Floor Oncology at Palmetto Health Baptist.
