Claire Brooke Reed, 43, of Hopkins, South Carolina passed away September 25, 2017 peacefully at home. She was born on July 12, 1974 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Clyde McCrary and Cindy Debus. Brooke was a proud alumnus of the University of South Carolina College of Math and Science. After graduating Brooke pursued a career in forensic science becoming a toxicologist at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). After leaving SLED she continued working in the Newborn Screening Laboratory at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Brooke devoted her entire career working for the State of South Carolina. Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her son and family. Many fond memories were created traveling back and forth between Columbia, Beech Mountain, Jacksonville, and Orlando with her husband, son, nieces, and nephew. She treasured her time with her family and friends as we treasured our time with her. She was extremely proud to be a Gamecock and never failed to tell anyone about it. Whether at Williams Brice Stadium or in front of the television she made it clear how she felt about the play calling. She had a special place in her heart for several Gamecocks other than her husband. She never forgot when she met Corey Jenkins and Alshon Jeffrey and how wonderful they were to her. Brooke was especially proud of Marcus Lattimore, as both hailed from the Upstate and for the incredible Christian role model he is both on and off the field. Brooke could not wait to see her son follow in his father's footsteps and step onto the football field this season. It was even more special to her that he would begin his kicking career at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School under the leadership of Coach Lattimore. David and Hayden would like to thank the amazing outpouring of support, thoughts, and prayers we have already received from friends, SLED, DHEC, and our new family at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. Claire is survived by her loving husband David; and son, Hayden; father, Clyde McCrary of Inman, SC.; sister, Leigh Sweeney of Knoxville, TN (Troy); and two nieces, Eliza, and Meredith; brother-in-Law, Dwayne Upton; and nephew, Weston; and niece, Olivia Upton of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Megan and Jennifer McCrary; sister, Robin Koon of Spartanburg; nieces, Amber Ellenburg and Ashley Bracken; nephew, Michael McCray of Spartanburg. Mother-in-Law, Anne Reed of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Emily Baratta (Doug); nieces Jordan and Taylor and nephew Hunter of Holly Springs, NC; sister-in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Geer; nieces, Kelsey and Hannah and nephew, Joseph of Thomasville, GA; brother-in-law, Stan Reed (Robin) of Seattle, WA; sister-in-law, Dr. Julie Reed (Gordon) and nephew, Reed of Columbia, SC. Numerous members of the Tiner Clan from Texas to Florida. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cindy Debus; and sister, Kimberley Upton; brother, Bobby McCrary, and father-in-law, Dr. Stanmore E. Reed. The family will plan a gathering to Celebrate Brooke's Life at a yet to be determined date. We Entrusted Claire Reed's Care To

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
