John H. Green

Columbia: John "Jack" H. Green, 83, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was born February 19, 1930, in Indianapolis, IN the son of the late Harry P. and Kathleen Green. Jack Green is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years of marriage, Mary Ellen Green, sons, Richard and John of Asheville, N.C., and Stephen of Columbia; grandchildren, Taylor Green of Charleston and Stephen Green of Columbia; and loving family members, Judy Green and Tara Green. After High School he joined the United States Navy and served on submarines early in his career. He later performed administrative duties for the Navy throughout the world in various countries. He retired after 22 years of dedicated services to our country. He then was an insurance executive for CUNA Mutual Insurance Group until his retirement in 1992. Jack was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Fort Jackson Golf Club for 25 years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Leesburg Rd. A graveside service celebrating the life of John "Jack" H. Green will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with Father Rick Labrecque of St. Peter's Catholic Church officiating. Full military honors and interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Jack Green's memory.
