Columbia—Mary Ann Derrick, age 79, passed away on August 24, 2017 in Columbia. She was born September 25, 1937 in West Pelzer SC to the late Benjamin and Erline Edwards. She was married for 53 wonderful years to the late Rodney D. Derrick. She is also predeceased by a brother, James K. Edwards of Richmond Va. Mary Ann is survived by one sister, Jean E Mitchell of Naperville Illinois; 2 children Jay Derrick of Columbia and Robin D. Cox (Mark) of Sumter; 2 grandsons, Madison Cox and Jacob Cox of Sumter; and many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She retired as a secretary from USC Medical School Department of Pharmacology. Known for her sassiness and strong opinions, she will be missed by many family members and good friends. Many thanks to all the staff in Wildewood Downs Assisted Living Community and Abbey Road Hospice. A memorial service will be held at Asbury UMC on Friday September 1, 2017 at 1PM with graveside services immediately following. In lieu of flowers ,memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church 1005 Asbury Drive Columbia SC 29209. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
