WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral service for Virginia Grandy Gunter, 89, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Airport Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Ed Lynch and Rev. Julian Boles. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Airport Baptist Church, 1269 Boston Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29170. Mrs. Gunter, widow of Bryce Marion Gunter, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012. Born in Aiken County, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Ervin Grandy and Ethel Boatwright Grandy. She was a member of Airport Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She will be remembered for her compassion and love for others. Survivors are: her daughter, Marilyn G. Knight (Butch) of Sandy Run; sons, Benny Gunter (Bonnie) of Gaston, Ronald Ray Gunter (Ann) of Edmund and Stephen Gunter (Cathy) of Springdale; brother, John Ervin Grandy of Concord, NC; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Hampton Alford, Hospice Care of Tri-County, particularly, Ann Robinson and Melanie Wise, and to friends and church family who ministered to Mrs. Gunter during her years of sickness. Heartfelt thanks go out to Mrs. Rae Boswell, her daytime caregiver, for the loving and compassionate care she gave "our mother".
