Funeral services for John D. Keen, Sr., U.S. Army (Retired), 82, of Columbia, will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. Dr. Walter Mack Burriss will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Keen passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011. He was born September 10, 1929 in Lebanon, MO to the late Guy and Inez Keen. Mr. Keen was retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of dedicated service, including 2 tours of duty in Korea. Following his military career, he was employed in insurance sales for 20 years. He was a member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church, and was an avid golfer. Surviving are his loving wife, to whom he was happily married for 62 years, Augusta ?Gussie? Keen; five daughters: Alice Hyland of Chapin, Roberta MacAllister of Elgin, Dolores Roberts (husband Wayne) of Gilbert, Judy Sparkes of Camden, Janet Mattingly (husband Brian) of Columbia; one son, John D. Keen Jr. (wife Elaine) of Chapin; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is now reunited with grandsons Aaron and Brent, and son-in-law Larry. Memorials may be made to Jackson Creek Baptist Church, 7778 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC 29223.
