January 19th, 1929 - July 14th, 2017
Melanie E. Wiedel, 88, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away July 14, 2017. She was born on January 19, 1929 in Metz, France to Pierre Mangin and Susanne (Fries) Mangin. Melanie was an avid Gamecock Fan and a member of the Midlands SC USBC Association Hall of Fame. Melanie is survived by one daughter, Danielle Gardner and her husband, Randy of Leesville, SC; two sons, Larry Wiedel and his wife, Charlene of Chapin, SC and Pete Wiedel and his wife, Erin of York, SC; 6 grandchildren; Johnny and Donnie Gardner, Caitlen and Stephen Wiedel, and Melanie and Kimberly; 3 great-grandchildren; Kelsey, Connor, and Cameron Gardner; and a sister, Pierrette Mangin Martz of Lorraine, France. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Wiedel; and 9 brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6 - 8 pm. Graveside services will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years.
