Betty M. Pollard Staggs COLUMBIA: A funeral service for Betty M. Pollard Staggs, 72, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Don Davis. A committal service will be held at 4 p.m., at Burke Memorial Park, Morganton, NC. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Stagg's grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington and also at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Burke Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or to the MUSC Interventional Radiology, 25 Courtenay Dr., MSC 226, Charleston, SC 29425. Mrs. Staggs went to be with her Lord, Monday, July 11, 2011. Born in Morganton, NC, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Allison Michaels and Florence Estelle Buff Michaels. She was a retired long time bookkeeper for several companies during her travels throughout the Southeast. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mrs. Staggs was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Staggs was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Pollard, Sr., her parents, Oscar Allison Michaels and Florence Estelle Buff Michaels, a brother, Ray Michaels and a sister, Junie Michaels. Survivors are; her husband, Joe Staggs of Columbia; a daughter, Toni Greer (Glenn) of West Columbia; sons, Allen Pollard (Rhonda) of Gilbert and Tim Pollard of West Columbia; sisters, Essie Epley, Ruth Pritchard and Mary Jane Simmons; and a brother, Charles Michaels all of Morganton, NC; two step-daughters, Debbie Petty of Taylors, SC and Charlene Pitman (Tommy) of Easley, SC; a step-son, Lee Pollard (Kathy) of Easley, SC; twenty grandchildren, Chris Greer (Jayme), Colby Greer, Darren Greer (Ashley), Timmy Hanrahan, Brittany Pollard, Kyle Pollard, Chad Pollard, Shelby Pollard, Megan Horton, Nikki Nirenberg, Sean Pollard (Allie), Dustin Pollard, Kristi Pollard, Caitlyn Muns, Brooke Jones, Allison Pollard, Anna Pollard, Devin Suttles (Amanda), Gary McAdams and Ashley McAdams; also several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mary Ackerman and the nurses and aides of Palmetto Health Hospice for the love and care shown to their mother and family.
