George Moreland
January 31st, 1935 - May 25th, 2011
George L. Moreland 76, passed away at home May 25, 2011 after an extended illness. George retired from the army with 21 years of service. His tours of duty included Georgia, Korea, Oklahoma, Germany, Vietnam, Taiwan, Ft. Dix, N.J. and Ft. Jackson, S.C. He was born in Odenville, Alabama into a family of 12 children. He is sometimes called the miracle man or the man with nine lives. George survived many major illnesses and surgeries and is the 2nd oldest living Heart Transplant recipient in South Carolina. He received his new heart in June 1990. George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty, daughters, Karan Mazenko (Tom) of Lugoff, SC, Donna Cox (Tony) of Simpsonville, SC, one son, Eddie (Dani) of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, four brothers, two sisters and a number of nieces and nephews. George loved his church, North Trenholm Baptist Church and his many christian friends and family especially the Early Risers Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held at North Trenholm Baptist Church Monday, May 30 at 11 AM to 12:30 PM followed by services at 12:30 PM and burial in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 North Trenholm Rd., Columbia, S.C. 29206. On-line condolences may be sent to www.greenlawnmemorialparkandfh.com. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.
