Charles "Smokey" Clayton Stover
August 1st, 1951 - February 13th, 2018
Columbia, SC—Charles "Smokey" Clayton Stover passed away at home Tuesday, February 13, 2018. He was born August 1, 1951 in McCaysville, Georgia to the late Ruby Caves and Robert Earl Stover. Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Martha. Charles is survived by his loving, devoted and heartbroken wife, Nancy Kellly-Stover; sons, William "Mac" Kelley-Stover, Charles Clayton Stover, Jr.; and daughter, Julie J. Stover; siblings, Abrenda G. Planas (Luis), Frank H. Stover (Gail), Shirley Lee Hamman; three grandchildren; and his beloved pet Scout, better known as Charles' shadow. Charles was happily retired. He worked for the City of Columbia, water purification division and with construction projects throughout the Midlands. Charles loved all types of music and always "jammed" in his Scion. Riding anywhere with him was an adventure. The Gamecock Nation has lost a devoted fan. Charles was truly a great man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always had a way to make others laugh with his somewhat twisted sense of humor. Charles was a loyal friend to those lucky enough to know him. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, or the local animal rescue organization of your choice.

We Entrusted Charles Stover's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
