Greenlawn Memorial Park
Andrew "Andy" Feagan Jones
March 7th, 1918 - September 16th, 2016
Andrew "Andy" Feagan Jones, Sr., passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 having enjoyed a full life of 98 years!! Visitation will be at 10 am on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 and Service at 11 am at Thompson Funeral in West Columbia, followed by interment at Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Samuel Purse and Sadie Jones. He was predeceased by his first loving wife of over 50 years, Frances Horsford Jones and son, Andrew F. Jones, Jr.; and granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Jones. He is survived by his dear sweet wife, Ruth Hipp Jones of Newberry, and children, J. David (Donna Sue), Steve, Richard S. (Elizabeth), and Elaine Jones; grandchildren Ray (Mary) Jones, Jason (Nicole) Jones, Tavia (John) Mosley, Brantley (Alicia) Jones, Eric Jones and Rebecca Jones; along with many loving nieces and nephews. He graduated from Columbia High School and the University of South Carolina prior to serving in the US Navy. While in the Navy, during World War II as a Lt. Commander, he was instrumental in creating the Naval Accounting System. During this time he also earned a Graduate Degree from Harvard University. Finishing his time in the Navy in Charleston, he then joined the company owned by Mr. J. C. Long and began a career in the development of the Isle of Palms. Later he moved back to his hometown of Columbia and worked as the Manager of the Richland Oil Company then on to the Columbia Beauty and Barber Supply Company as the Comptroller and Treasurer, where he retired after 25 years. His greatest hobby was woodworking in his amazing workshop. There he was able to turn out legendary pieces, such as four-poster Rice Beds, stately Grandfather Clocks, and several ornate mirrors and chests. His talents in the workshop allowed him to give, through his teachings of his craft, to those who needed something extra in their lives, and created an organization known as the Woodworms. He also gave so much of himself by his volunteer efforts and was awarded the highest honor by the Methodist Church, the Altruism award. He was also known for many years as a dedicated volunteer with the Alston Wilkes Society where he helped those in crisis find a way for a brighter future. Someone once said that "Andy" doesn't just join a club (such as the Lions Club), but he becomes the most active member of the club and makes sure that there is a mission and that it gets accomplished. He was a distinguished, strong but very caring man and he was a fine example of a great man. In fact, as his grandson, Jason said, " he was one of the greatest of the Greatest Generation." In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Sarah Jones Film Foundation, which promotes safety and awareness on movie sets throughout the filmmaking industry, in care of Central Carolina Community Foundation, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 213, Columbia, SC 29204.

We Entrusted Andrew Jones's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
