William "Bill" Luther Joy
December 26th, 1930 - July 21st, 2016
William "Bill" Luther Joy, 85 of Columbia SC, died Thursday morning July 21, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Bill was born December 26, 1930 in Hemingway, SC to the late Ernest and Mary Joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wera Prosser Joy; and their children, William Joy Jr. (Kathy) of Columbia, SC, Amanda Joy Olson (Steve) of Tampa, FL, Jackie Preston (Nathan) of Greenville, SC; his grandchildren, Josh Joy, Ryan Joy, Alyssa Olson, Reagan Olson, CJ Drake, Parker Drake, Brayden Drake, Nicholas Boltin, and Katie Boltin; his brother, Johnny Joye (Sylvia); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was Predeceased by his grandson, Jay Coulter Joy. He served proudly in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. Bill retired from the building industry, and spent his free time fishing and cooking. He was a member of Mill Creek Methodist church and a member of the Ruritan club. Bill was best known for his selfless spirit and award winning pound cake. The family wishes to thank Trixie, his night sitter, and all of those who provided their care, support, and prayers during this difficult time. A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 23rd at Mill Creek United Method Church at 3:00pm. A reception will be held afterward in the Church Holler Building. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Ruritan National or Mill Creek UMC. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com.
