Kathleen Angeline Persons Jurata Reeves January 5, 1940-June 8, 2024
Kathleen left this world a much better place through a life well lived full of sharing her kindness, thoughtfulness and unconditional love with all she knew.
Kathleen was born on January 5, 1940, in Chehalis, Washington, to Ruth Sarah Foster and Telford Persons. The family were migrant farm workers who traveled around from South Dakota to Washington and back. Kathleen’s family relocated to Denver in 1944. Jim Jurata soon married into the family and they settled in North Denver. Kathleen attended Ashland Elementary, Skinner Junior High, and graduated from North High School in 1957. She then started college at Colorado State College (now University of Northern Colorado). While in Greeley, she fell in love with John Reeves. They were married three months later. John and Kathleen spent their early married years in Greeley and Fort Morgan before returning to Denver. They settled in southwest Denver where they raised their daughters, Elizabeth and Rebeka. Kathleen had a career as a teacher's aid with Denver Public Schools, first at College View Elementary and then at Kaiser Elementary. She was with Denver Public Schools for over 30 years. While she was still working as a Teacher’s Aide, she started working with Denver Fabrics, later known as Colorado Fabrics. She continued to work at the fabric store until she retired at age 80.
Fabric and sewing were a passion for Kathleen. She loved to sew! Her mother taught her to sew as a child and Kathleen sewed her entire life. People who knew Kathleen most likely have something she sewed for them. Most recently she became a quilter.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ruth Jurata, and Telford Persons, her beloved husband of 50 years, John Reeves, and her grandson, Dominic Sandoval
Kathleen is survived by her brother; Roger Persons, daughters; Elizabeth Reeves (Jim Hursch), Rebeka Reeves-Toney (Jerry Toney), grandchildren; Luke Brewbaker (Katarina Davis-Brewbaker), Peter Brewbaker, Amanda Hursch (Jason Hoff); and great grandchildren, Kekoa Sandoval, Ikaika Pacheco-Sandoval, and Elliot Hursch.
