Donald Thompson boarded the bus for heaven on 11/18/2013 in Denver, Colorado. There will be a Memorial Service on December 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s Community Church, (address: 8001 W. 23rd Ave., Lakewood, CO 80214). This will be followed by a reception at the church. There will also be a second Memorial service in Bismarck, North Dakota at the Veterans cemetery in Summer 2014. Don grew up in Carpio, North Dakota, graduated from Carpio High School, went on to college at Minot State where he graduated with a major in English and Physical Education. He also went to summer school and obtained a Master’s degree in education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. Don loved sports. He played basketball and football in high school and college. During the Korean War, Don served in Battery “B”, 188 FA BN 47th Division, stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama. He met his lovely wife, Donna, at a dance in Williston, North Dakota and they were married on July 17, 1960. He spent 15 years teaching junior high, school English and physical education and coaching basketball and football in Crosby and Kenmare, North Dakota and Sitka, Alaska. In the summers, he worked Border Patrol for U.S. Customs and then was offered a full time position and worked in Pembina, North Dakota and later headquarters in Washington, D.C. for Customs until retirement. His hobbies included sports, going to the dog track, horse track and casino with his wife, road trips to visit friends and relatives, playing cards(especially bridge) and dancing (jitterbug and polka). Don enjoyed reading about history, current events, Norwegian stories about “Ole and Lena” and also North Dakota joke books, He loved lefse, ice cream, and Jello (all colors) especially when made by “Lutheran church ladies”. To drink he enjoyed root beer and regular beer when playing bridge with Arlene and Gene Mach. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Emma Thompson, his brother, Duane, and his sister, Jeanette. Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna M. Thompson and his daughter, Lori Bennett, son, Kyle Thompson and 4 grandchildren, Kelsea, Amanda, Ian and Hannah
