John Trunk

John was born in St. Louis, Missouri to parents John Lawrence Trunk, and mother Cora E. Haverstick. Together they had four daughters: Clara Mae, Betty, Mary and Janet. And twin boys which John was one of, his twin died soon after birth. Unfortunately Cora died when John was very young. John Sr. made the decision to place his five children in foster care and return to his military duties in Europe. In June of 1944 John entered ‘Boys Town’, Father Flanagan’s home for boys, in Nebraska. Upon graduation in June of 1950, John enlisted in the Marine Corps in September of 1950. Staff Sargent John E. Trunk, participated in operations against enemy forces in Korea from April 1951 to April 1952. During 1950-1960 John was awarded the following medals: Good Conduct (4) National Defense Medal United Nations Service Medal Korean Service Medal with one Star Korean Presidential Unit Citation…. to name a few. In 1952 while John and fellow serviceman Phillip J Combs were marine recruiters in Denver, CO they met sisters Elaine and Irene Madrid of Trinidad,CO. Phillip married Elaine in the summer of 1952 and John spent a lot of time through out the years at various family functions. After dating for two years on September 4, 1965, John married Irene Zehna (Madrid), 31 year old mother of Lori (10), David (8) and Catherine “Kathy” (4). John was an Accounts Payable Manager for several years at A.E. Heinsons in Denver. Then worked at Mid West Rubber as a Warehouse Manager for 24 years until he retired. Irene worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for 30+ years at various hospitals. During their 47 year marriage, John and Irene were blessed with a loving, growing family. Son, David Trunk of Lakewood, CO. Daughters: Lori (Ed) Reedy of Littleton, CO and Catherine “Kathy” Thomas of Riverside, CA. John is “Popi” to five grandchildren: Josh (Vicky) Reedy of Arvada, CO; Aubri Reedy of Littleton CO; Dylan Reedy of Littleton, CO; Shawn (Sebrina) Thomas of Littleton, CO; Ryanna (Matt) Thayer of Atlanta, GA. Ten great-grandchildren: Gabriel (Aubri); Clarissa “Bella”, Alexandra, Sophia, and baby boy Reedy due January 2013 (Josh/Vicky); Stazia, Safyre, Skyla, (Shawn/Sabrina); Matty, Layla (Ryanna/Matt). John is also survived by a very large extended family (in-laws), brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends.
