Richard Turner
May 11th, 1982 - March 3rd, 2019
Richard J. Turner, Husband, Dad, Comrade who to me was second to none. He was quiet, friendly and unassuming as he carried himself in spoken confidence and his struggles in personal silence. He was called home to be with God on March 3rd, 2019. The Legacy he left is in his soulmate and wife Mrs. Rebekah E. Turner, his boy’s Nicholas, Jaeden and Noah, and his daddy’s girls Emma, Lily and Mollie. He is also carried forward by his Father Donald Turner, his Mother Tamara Costello, his brother’s Donny and Freddy, and sister Christine. Richard was from Buffalo, NY, and very proudly touted his love of the Buffalo Bills, Pizza & Wings, and Beef on Weck. As a Soldier, he was a 74D CBRN Specialist, and lived his military life most notably in the elite RECON Platoon. He met his wife in 2011, as well as the 2 she shared his love with, SSG (RET) Terence Erb, and SSG Michael Colon, respectively. They married in 2013, and they began the greatest adventure together. As he spent his career in the Army he became the best wingman, Maverick and Goose, he developed an infinity for Yepper Yeak, practical jokes, and Top Gun references. He was a natural born leader, and he left an impact on all his Soldier’s that is still felt today. When he transitioned from the Army and into full-time Dad he was just as natural at that, if not more. And when it was time he found his next great calling at USAA. He was part of a team that gave him a new sense of purpose and pride. It really developed his love for helping people even more and he treasured his time there. He was above all, devoted to his wife and children, and lived every second of his life being grateful for every moment they had together. Richard accomplished the greatest goal he ever set, to become a good husband, and a good dad and he naturally and tremendously surpassed both. He was the greatest! If he had it to give, he would. If he could offer his help, he would. He had the biggest heart, and it was felt by those who knew and loved him. He fought every day to be better than before, and even when he stumbled, he picked himself up, dusted off, and started again. He appreciated every moment and experience in his life, and never took for granted the blessings in his life. He lived by: “Going in one more round when you think you can’t, that’s what makes all the difference in your life,” “Every Champion was once a contender who refused to give up.” And his Legacy will only grow the love he planted during his time.
