Anthony Angello
October 22nd, 1934 - July 21st, 2017
Anthony “Tony” Louis Angello M.D., cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in his sleep early Friday morning, July 21, 2017. He was born to Louis Angello and Mary Martines Angello Mancuso (both deceased) on October 22, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. Following his father’s death in 1940, Tony and his mother moved to her hometown, Carbondale, Pennsylvania, where he was cared for by her loving family. His mother married Tony’s step-father, Dominick (Dime) Mancuso (deceased), in 1946. He attended St. Rose Catholic High School from 1948-1952, as a straight A student and point guard for their basketball team. Tony received a basketball/track scholarship to the University of Scranton Catholic and Jesuit research university, graduating with honors in pre-med. He completed medical school at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960, and interned at Misericordia Hospital, both in Philadelphia. Tony was drafted into the United States Army January 7, 1962, and he and his family were sent to Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. There he served as chief of the outpatient clinic while completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. In 1966 their tour of duty continued in Heidelberg, Germany and Vicenza, Italy where he was commander of the Vicenza Army Health Center. As a Lieutenant Colonel, Tony received an honorable discharge September 11, 1970. He and his family returned to Denver, Colorado where he joined Colorado OBGYN Associates with partners Drs. Charles Freed and Manford Oliphant. Tony practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 30 years, bringing thousands of babies into the world! He retired in 1996 following quintuple cardiac bypass surgery. Tony is survived by Nan, his wife of 60 years, children: Cynthia (Rich) Horrigan, Tony (Michele) Angello, Patrick (Katy) Angello, grandchildren: Daniel, Rachel, Claire, Arie, and Luc, and his brother, Donald Mancuso. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Risen Christ Roman Catholic Church, 3060 S. Monaco Parkway at 10 AM on Friday, July 28th, followed by a reception in the parish hall.
