Stanley Enger
March 18th, 1928 - October 5th, 2009
STANLEY GEORGE ENGER PRC USN RETIRED MARCH 18, 1928-OCTOBER 5,2009 BORN: ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA DIED: AURORA, COLORADO Stanley departed us leaving his wife Dee, of 39+ years, his son James and daughters Geri and Linda. There are 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He served our beloved country honorably for 20 years, during WORLD WAR II, KOREA and 3 tours of VIETNAM. He started his military career jumping out of airplanes (experimentally) and finished it taking care of the escape systems (parachutes, oxygen systems, etc) on the carrier aircraft. He spent most of his career at sea. He served on The Kearsage, The Hancock, The Kenneth Whiting and most of his career on the KITTY HAWK. Retired December 10, 1964. Stan then went to work at Northrup Ventura, working on Packing and Writing the packing manual for the Apollo Recovery Chutes. He met his future wife Dee Heller Hanley in the Para lab where she was doing hand sewing on the chutes. They were married March 18,1970. (Guess he could not forget the anniversary, his BD) They left California in June 1969 to work at Stanley Aviation. He worked with RM Stanley developing a new escape system for pilots through the canopy of the aircraft. Then went on to work for the City& County of Denver as an Excise Inspector, until he retired in 1985. Unfortunately, he has had many illnesses since then. He will be buried at Sea with full Military honors. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, The American Heart Assoc. or the University of Colorado Medical Center. Love From: Joseph Healey-grandson and his family Sarah, Elizabeth and Ethan He was also a man that would speak his mind and spoke the truth no matter who was around or listening. He got to enjoy many generations of off springs. Love From: Destinee Lane Enger-great granddaughter 6 going on 7 I’m remembering reading books to him on his lap and telling my great grandpa all about my swim lessons. I sure will miss him a lot. Love From: Timothy and Renee Enger- grandson We will always miss hearing his stories of the good old times that he had. We will miss him a lot. Love From: Linda-daughter To Daddy, He’ll always be Daddy to me. I remember the year he got a movie camera and I got an odd ogg (half turtle, half frog) toy. I had lots of fun with that toy. We would dance at the NCO Club whenever we went there and he would get me a “Shirley Temple” to drink. I had such pride in him. The Navy was his life and it built pride in himself that lasted his lifetime. I remember how he gave up cigarettes till he could pay for my sister’s first fancy dress. I am blessed by my Mom Dee who made possible for him and me to come full circle in life. I love you Daddy Love From: Geri-daughter & husband Michael My Father was and did many things in his life. H was an American who loved his country and served it in three wars. He was a husband who provided and loved as much as he could. He was a father who always tried to do the right thing. He was a son who left home early and joined the Navy. My Father did many things in his life that I will always remember, from jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, not being sure the chute would open, to sewing me a prom dress. He never tried anything that he did not finally succeed in, no matter how long it took. He had his shortcomings but I will always remember the extraordinary man he was. Love From: James-son My Dad loved me enough to adopt me as his own son. He was always there to support anything I did. He always encouraged me to try and do everything. Including: driving, going to truck driving school, buying my own Trucking business and most of all racing motorcycles. He was always there as my pit crew, my helper, my cheerleader, even though he was not very comfortable riding himself until we got the 3 wheelers. I never heard you can’t, always you can do it. He will live in my heart forever. Love From: Danielle-granddaughter and Husband Douglas Camp My “paw-paw” was an open book. He was who he was and no one could change that. My favorite memory of paw-paw growing up was the ginger bread house he sent me every year at Christmas time-I always looked forward to its arrival. Looking back on those memories reminds me that he truly was a warmhearted man, in spite of those rough edges. He was loved and will be missed.
