Helen Violet Maki, 94, of Carlton, died Monday, September 27, 2010 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born in 1916, the daughter of John and Helga Kosonen. Helen married John Emil Maki on August 7, 1935. She had been employed at Wood Conversion, Diamond Match, Golden Gate Motel, Bass Wood Lake, and did housekeeping for area families. Helen was a member of Garden Club, TOPS, Sewing Club, AARP, Carlton County Historical Society and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, gardening, baking, cooking and trips to their island cabin on Lake Saganaga. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; brother, Kalervo Kosonen and a great grandson, Anthony Hagen. Helen is survived by her two children, Gerald (Cynthia) Maki of Englewood, FL and Charlene (Dwayne) Hagen of Cloquet; sister, Elvi Hackman of Carlton; seven grandchildren, Eric, Craig, Ryan, Jennifer, Jeff, Tom and Mark and eight great grandchildren, Brooke, Brendan, Olivia, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Ashton, Amy and Kaylee. The family wishes to thank Helen's sister, Elvi, Linda Sorem, and Helen's many friends and coffee pals at Inter-Faith Care Center for their love and support. Funeral Services were held on Friday, October 1, 2010 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
