Charles "Carl" Waldemar Walli
November 20th, 1924 - October 24th, 2013
Charles Waldemar "Carl" Walli, 88 of Tamarack went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 24, 2013 in Villa Vista Care Center with his loving family by his side. Carl was born November 20, 1924 in Lakeview Township to Jacob and Sophia Walli. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1942. This country was in the midst of WWII at the time of his graduation so Carl was drafted into the Army. After the War, he returned to his home in Tamarack where he farmed the remainder of his life. On August 20, 1960 Carl married Norma Jean Ranum in St. Paul. Together they raised two children. Carl was a member of the McGregor Victory Church, the Tamarack/Wright Horseshoe Club, Wright Pool League, the Wright Coop Board for 27 years, and the Lakeside Community Club. He was involved in soil conservation and was named the Carlton County Farmer of the Year in 1969. In addition to horseshoes and pool, he enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, bowling, gardening, and taking a good sauna. One of Carl's proudest moments was traveling to Washington DC with the Honor Flight Northland in October of 2011. He will be sadly missed for his gentle, hard-working nature and quick wit. Carl was preceded in death by his brothers, Eino, Arthur, Henry, and Ernie Walli; sisters, Ida Walli, Laura Walli, Elma Bordwell, and Jennie Waisanen; and infant granddaughter, Caitlyn Walli-Purcell. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Norma Jean; son, Tad of Tamarack; daughter, Melinda (Scott) Ferry of Tamarack; three grandchildren, Heather Bradford, Lonnie (Tiffany) Bradford, and Greg Purcell; one great grandson, Layton Bradford with another great grandson due in November; brothers, Arne of Flint, Mich., Sulo (Delores) of Cromwell, and Reino (Donna) of North Carolina. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 28, 2013 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery.
