George David Anderson, 87 of Carlton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010. He was born April 9, 1923 in Ogden, Utah the youngest of six children born to Oscar and Olga Anderson. At the age of 6 months, his family moved to Minnesota. They lived in Duluth and later moved to the family farm in Wright. George went through the eighth grade in a rural country school. George was drafted into WWII but due to a previous logging accident that caused permanent damage to his knee, he was ineligible to serve. From 1943 to 1947 he attended St. Paul Bible Institute. While there he met Fern Zimmerman and they were married on June 27, 1947. George served in the ministry with the Christian Missionary Alliance for the next 10 years in South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota. In 1957 he began working for Northwest Paper Company and retired from Potlatch in 1986. George was very proud to have built his own home with help from his family and friends. George was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church and the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed 30 Elderhostel Programs in his retirement including travel to Europe and Israel. He also enjoyed bird watching, beekeeping and woodworking. George was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Linnea Albright and Esther Anderson; and three brothers, Evert, Oliver and Axel Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Fern; three children Mary Lynn (Ron) Carlson of Stacy, Minn., Kathi (Mike) Eames of Carlton; and David (Desh) Anderson of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 in Grace Baptist Church in Cloquet. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Wright. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Missions. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
