Frances B. Granley, 86, Scanlon, formerly of Carlton, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. She was born April 21, 1918 in Aurora, MN, the daughter of James and Ester (Conlon) Brophy. Frances grew up in Duluth and graduated from Morgan Park High School. She married Lester Granley in Duluth on February 25, 1938. They moved to Carlton in 1949 and Frances worked at the Conoco Oil Refinery as an accountant for 25 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, on August 5, 2000; two brothers, Bob and Jim Brophy and a sister, Betty Nystrom. Frances will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Gerry (Carol) Granley of Cloquet and Dale Granley of Breezy Point, MN; six grandchildren, Christopher (Marcia) Granley of Boyceville, WI, Sarah (Jaye) Peterson of St. Paul, Jered (Mindy) Granley of Duluth, Benjamin Granley of White Bear Lake, Phillip Granley and Cody Granley, both of Breezy Point; three great grandchildren, Lucy Frances Peterson, Lynnsey Keller and Jacob Granley; a brother, Bill (Marilyn) Brophy of Palm Harbor, FL; three sisters-in-law, Vernice Brophy, Ev Brophy and Lu Widdell, all of Duluth; many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her doctor, Dr. Mark Plachta, for his compassionate care, concern and communication given to Frances and her family. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Burial will take place in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Carlton.
