Thomas W. Angell
August 16th, 1949 - February 18th, 2015
Thomas W. Angell, 65, of Cloquet, fought a ferocious battle with liver cancer that ended peacefully with his family by his side on February 18, 2015. Tom was born in Cloquet in 1949, the eldest child of Jalmer and Joyce Angell. Tom attended the Cloquet schools and thereafter worked with the family operating J&J Kartways. With his parents and siblings, they collectively built and operated the Big Lake Golf Course for more than 40 years, with Tom managing the course after the passing of his father and brother, Terry. His second career was with Cars Towing & Service where he excelled at helping stranded motorists. He enjoyed auto racing, golfing and loved to tinker with cars, and to assemble complex model cars. Tom was especially proud of his 24 years of sobriety. He could be seen each day fishing on the dock at Big Lake wrapping up the 2014 season only when the ice forced him indoors. Welcoming him into Heaven were his father, Jalmer; brothers, Richard and Terry; and sister, Pamela Jacksie. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Shelly (Josh) Babb of Caruthers, CA and Neely Erickson (Bart Budris) of Cloquet; his five amazing grandchildren, Desiree, Jerrica, and Racine Babb and Brianna and Matthew Erickson; great grandson and the apple of his eye, Maverix Osmer; his caring mother, Joyce Angell (Earl Rennquist) of Carlton; sister and guardian angel, Penney (Del) Prevost of Cloquet; brother-in-law, Steve Jacksie (Deb Saari) of Cloquet; and his girlfriend and guardian angel, Alice Buck of Cloquet. Memorial Services were held on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
