Helen T. Erickson, 92, Cloquet, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 in her home. She was born November 8, 1912 in Frankfort, SD, the daughter of Richard and Sylvia (Frear) Schoonmaker. She attended Stowe grade school and Morgan Park High School in Duluth. After attending Young and Hirsh Business College, Helen worked at a brokerage firm. She then worked as a nursing assistant at the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. Helen also was employed as an accountant/bookkeeper for Carlton County Social Services. She married David Erickson on July 13, 1932 in Carlton. Helen was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary, Senior Companions and the Covenant Chapel. She especially enjoyed embroidery, her involvement with the Carlton County Senior Citizens and she received state recognition for her 20 year participation in the Senior Companion Program. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her son, David "Sonny"; her step-father, Bert Haney and seven siblings. Helen will be greatly missed by her two children, Joan (Jim) Hall of Lutsen and Ray (Barb) Erickson of Blaine; 14 grandchildren, Kirk, Don, Dale (Pat), Karrie, Cheryl (Dennis), Hans (Greta), Sylvia (Steve), Kim (Mark), Keith, Stephanie, Peter (Teresa), Marc (Leisa), Ben (Angela) and Amber (Cristian); 18 great grandchildren, Dennis, Jr., Nicole, Rachel, Kyle, Ada, Alisha, Joe, David, Lee Hansene, Matthew, Karla, Elizabeth, Mogan, Nicholas, Joel, Christian, Seth and Samuel; a sister, Fran Berger of Duluth; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Jacobson of Edina and Evelyn Haney Johnson of Duluth and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, November 15, 2004 from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet followed by refreshments in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society (to assist Cloquet area patients), 130 West Superior Street, Suite 200, Duluth, MN 55802, or to the Gideon Auxiliary.
