Phyllis Ann Barney, 78 of Esko died Friday, May 10, 2013 in Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. She was born February 20, 1935 in Duluth to Sakrie and Ida Bergstedt. Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Esko High School. She married Raymond Barney on June 16, 1956 in Esko. She also graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1956. Phyllis was a lifelong member of Apostolic Lutheran Church. Phyllis loved the Lord, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents; her second mother, Aili Bergstedt; sisters, Mildred (Kirk) Otto and Marian (Milt) Widen; and brothers, Edwin, Bill, Robert, and Jim. She is survived by her children, Jill (Philip) Marin of Minneapolis, Judith (John) Lappi of Greer, SC, Patricia (Steven) Liebman of Rindge, NH, Peter Barney of Duluth, and Maria Marzolf of Cloquet; sisters, Mabel Bumala of Walnut Creek, CA, Margaret "Peggy" (Gary) Petersen of Mesa, AZ, Naomi Hilman of Alberta, Canada, and Janet (John) Pelto of Bloomington; brothers, Jacob (Elaine) Bergstedt of Esko; and Peter (Joyce) Bergstedt of Stacey; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Parke, Brent (Sheila) Marin, Kyle (Ashley) Hoard, Kevin, Bryant, and Zachary Hoard, Jake Lappi, Jenna (Tyler Williams) Lappi, and Madison and Andrew Marzolf; four great grandchildren; special family friend, Julie Korby of Esko; and many other special people who played such an important role in Phyllis' life. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 13th in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. Burial was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
