Jean Olivia Lund, 84, entered into eternal rest on January 12 at Augustana Health Care Center in Moose Lake, from complications of diabetes. Jean was born on March 19, 1933 in Virginia, MN, the firstborn of Oscar and Helen (Muller) Youngstrom. Jean attended school in Mountain Iron and spent summers helping her parents at their resort, Youngstrom's Camp, on Lake Kabetogoma. After graduating, she married Oscar Lund on June 19, 1951. They began their life together in Blackhoof Township where they farmed and Oscar logged. During those years, 5 sons were born to them. In 1959, they purchased the Standard Oil gas station in Barnum and later, Gateway Standard in Moose Lake. In 1964, the family moved to Barnum where Jean taught piano lessons and was active in Barnum Music Study Club and the Barnum Busy Bees 4H Club. In 1973, they opened and operated Lund's Building Center in Moose Lake until 1990. After selling the Building Center, Jean opened and operated Consignment World in Moose Lake for several years. In August of 1982, Jean gave the gift of life when she donated a kidney to her brother Bert. She and Oscar spent their retirement years traveling, making and selling wood crafts, growing and planting thousands of flowers in her flower gardens at their home on Bear Lake, and enjoying family and friends. Their faith and her love of music were always present in her life. Due to Alzheimer's, Oscar moved in 2002 to Mercy Health Care Center where Jean spent every evening with him until his passing on March 5, 2009. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; parents, Oscar and Helen Youngstrom; her brother, Bert; her sister, Bette; her in-laws, Axel "Fred" and Gerda Lund; and Oscar's sister and husband, Edith and Vigo Nelson. She will be missed by her five sons, Terrance (Shirley) of Barnum, Dale (Lynne) of Sturgeon Lake, Kim (Marguerite) of Calgary, Alberta, Wendell (Elizabeth) of Barnum, and David (Janis) of Moose Lake; her sister, Mary (Bob) Boril of Esko; sister-in-law, Bernice Youngstrom of Mountain Iron; brother-in-law, Ed Anderson of White Bear Lake; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Barnum in the spring.
