Avis E. Tillman
August 27th, 1937 - June 5th, 2017
Avis E. Tillman, 79, of Cromwell, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Augustana Care Center, Moose Lake. Avis was born August 27, 1937 the daughter of Ernest and Helia (Heikkila) Pihlaja in Superior, WI. She was raised in Cromwell and graduated from Cromwell High School. Avis married Jack V. Tillman on February 21, 1959 in McGregor. They made their home in Tamarack for a short time before moving to Cromwell in 1964. From 1977 to 1979 they owned Jack's Place Café. She also was a cook for Cromwell school and a cashier at the local grocery store. Avis was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, YOT (The Young Old Timers) and the Cromwell Historical Society. She was an avid sewer, gardener and cook/baker, she made the best bread ever! She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack on January 29, 2005; her twin brother, Alan Pihlja; sister, Alyce Kangas and nephew, Roland Pihlaja. Avis is lovingly survived by her son, Kurt (Glenna) Tillman; daughters, Cathy (Lance) Lundin and Julie Tillman; her grandchildren, Landon, Laura and Lacy Lundin, Abigail, Brittany and Jackson Tillman, and by many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 2 pm Monday June 12 in the Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Private family burial in the Eagle Lake Cemetery, Eagle Township.
